WingTsun is the trademarked name of our Great Grandmaster Leung Ting’s version of the art he learned from late, great Grandmaster Yip Man. The Leung Ting WingTsun® system is represented by the International WingTsun Association (IWTA) world-wide in over 63 countries.
Grandmaster Leung Ting was originally the student of Leung Sheung (Grandmaster Yip’s first Hong Kong student). His second elder kung fu brother, Kwok Keung, introduced him to Grandmaster Yip Man. Shortly after this, he became the last student and closed-door student of late Grandmaster Yip Man. This means that he was accepted as a pupil after Grandmaster Yip had already “closed his door” to teaching.
Leung Ting decided to spell what he taught as “Wing Tsun” to distinguish his teaching from the other instructors who spelled it variously as “ving tsun” or “wing chun.” Later, the spelling was established as one word in order to further distinguish his system.
