Our classes address a surprise attack if you are grabbed by somebody attempting to put you into a headlock.  Of course there is a whole series of ideas against grabs that can be addressed.  Many martial art styles have pre-arranged scenarios for a whole variety of attacks.  Unfortunately none of those scenarios is going to be what happens to you in an attack.  It is impossible to know this ahead of time!  That is why we have to know and practice ‘principals’ that can be applied at will in any situation.

A great many actual attacks by persons on others in real life situations involve grabs. Not everything is a strike in actual circumstances. In our self defense classes in Gilbert, we offer as a special topic, the concepts of Leung Ting WingTsun® as applied to grappling attacks or grabs. The Leung Ting WingTsun® system utilizes the applications of the forms in the Yip Man lineage to teach students how to defend at five ranges or, what may be more descriptive, five situational ranges: kicking, hand /arm range, knees and elbow range, anti-grappling while standing, and ground-fighting self-defense.

Students learn top notch self-defense skills

We first teach the foundation of great self defense skills. Footwork and basic hand skills that really work are taught early on.  They form the basis of the ability to stay on one’s feet if attacked, borrow an attacker’s force and move quickly out of the line of attack.

Unlike the other versions of Wing Chun coming from the Yip Man lineage, Leung Ting WingTsun® teaches applications on the ground as well as anti-grappling and applications against techniques from other fighting methods and weapons.  Unlike the other versions from the Yip Man lineage, Leung Ting WingTsun® teaches the footwork necessary to get out of the way of an attack and apply the concepts within the first few ranks. The realistic applications training is ongoing.
